Riverside School were fortunate enough to take part in the Debate Mate Credit Suisse Cup hosted at Credit Suisse Canary Wharf. All pupils who took part did exceptionally well, although we did not win the whole competition, we did win our unprepared debate against The Petchey Academy. The prepared motion was ‘THW – ban the use of combat drones in armed warfare’. Riverside Pupils worked extremely hard for this debate and displayed pure professionalism. The judges commented that the competition was relatively close with high respectable scores above average. Our pupils were praised for their use of examples, use of rhetoric and ability to humanise their speeches. Ian Hale (Chief Risk Officer – Credit Suisse) closed off the event with an inspirational speech about motivation and success. Debate Mate 2014/15 will be launching after half term and all pupils are encouraged to sign up to this invaluable club!
